How long does polished concrete last compared to epoxy?
Polished concrete lasts the life of the building — it uses and improves the slab itself rather than adding a coating that can delaminate. Commercial polished concrete floors in high-traffic retail environments regularly last 20–30 years with minimal maintenance. Epoxy coatings typically need recoating after 10–15 years in similar conditions.
Can existing damaged concrete be polished, or does it need to be replaced?
Most damaged concrete can be polished without replacement. Surface cracks, spalling, and staining can be filled and ground through. The key factor is whether the slab has structural integrity. We assess every slab before quoting — severely delaminated slabs may need repair before polishing, but slab replacement is rarely necessary.
Is polished concrete slippery when wet?
A properly ground and densified concrete floor has a slip resistance comparable to vinyl tile. We can apply a penetrating silane conditioner for kitchens, entryways, and wet areas that maintains the polished appearance while improving wet-surface grip. All our commercial polished concrete finishes are spec'd to CSA slip-resistance standards.
