A large share of detached homes west of Main Street sit on slabs poured between the 1930s and 1970s — concrete that has carried six to nine decades of moisture cycling, settlement, and surface wear. That history is not a problem to coat over; it is a slab condition to test for. Every Vancouver floor gets a calcium chloride or RH probe moisture reading before a coating is selected, because the city's high rainfall and clay-rich West Side soils push vapor up through old slabs at rates that will delaminate a coating installed blind.
